I trained myself to speak in short sentences when I needed to give instructions to a child or to the whole group. I had a signal to get the classroom quiet and get all the children looking and listening to me. I knew that I then had about 20 seconds to communicate with the children. I found that the children were willing to cooperate IF I gave clear, concise instructions. I was a preschool teacher for 13 years.
